The frequency of temperatures reaching over 40°C, as well as occasionally surpassing 50°C, is on the rise globally, highlighting the escalating nature of heat extremes.

The potential impact is profound: limiting global warming to 1.5°C could significantly reduce the number of people frequently exposed to these events, potentially saving millions from suffering severe impacts.

Increased risks are not limited to more frequent and intense storms alone; sequential extreme weather events can compound their impacts beyond what might be expected in isolation. The synergistic effect of concurrent heatwaves and droughts is a growing concern.
Disaster Statistics
The number of disasters worldwide has increased by nearly five times over the past half-century, driven predominantly by climate change and more severe weather conditions, alongside improved reporting capabilities. Early warning systems play a crucial role in mitigating impacts; fortunately, they have contributed to a threefold decrease in fatalities.
World Meteorological Day Emphasis
In recognition of the rising threat posed by extreme events, World Meteorological Day 2022 centered on Early Warning and the Safety Net for Every Person. This highlighted the importance of early warning systems as essential tools for risk mitigation and disaster preparedness.
