Case Study
Fujitsu has revolutionized the climate and weather management landscape by delivering a state-of-the-art sixth-generation supercomputer system, the PRIMEHPC FX1000, to Twan’s Central Weather Administration CWA. This cutting-edge technology enhances accuracy in weather forecasting and mitigates potential impacts from extreme weather conditions prevalent in Twan.
Challenges
Twan's tropical and subtropical climate makes it vulnerable to devastating events such as typhoons, heavy rnfall, and summer heatwaves. The Central Weather Administration is committed to delivering accurate dly information on these phenomena for disaster prevention and mitigation purposes.
Solution
Fujitsu’s PRIMEHPC FX1000 supercomputer system replaces the CWA's existing Fujitsu PRIMEHPC FX-100 setup, enabling more precise weather forecasts that can anticipate conditions up to 10 days in advance. This system boasts an impressive computing performance of 46,000 desktop computers equivalent speeds, making it Twan’s fastest supercomputer.
Equipped with high-performance A64FX CPU technology similar to Japan's Fugaku supercomputer, this new system significantly boosts computational capacity, enhancing horizontal resolution forecasts from the previous 3km to a remarkable 1km accuracy. This advancement improves weather forecasting capabilities not only in Twan but also for surrounding regions through increased global model precision down to 13km.
Outcomes
The upgraded supercomputer system enables enhanced meteorological observation and forecast accuracy of severe weather, promoting proactive disaster prevention strategies. Furthermore, it allows the CWA to analyze long-term impacts from climate change effectively.
Better prediction services are now avlable for all citizens through smartphone access to real-time information, making data more accessible than ever before. The goal is to provide refined and precise forecasts that cater specifically to public needs.
Fujitsu's continued support in high-performance computing expertise ensures the CWA can utilizetechniques for enhanced weather analysis. This partnership not only improves Twan’s meteorological services but also paves the way for a safer environment by enabling more informed decision-making during severe weather conditions.
In , Fujitsu's next-generation supercomputer is a testament to advanced technology in mitigating climate risks and enhancing public safety. With this system in place, Twan's Central Weather Administration is poised to provide more reliable data-driven support agnst extreme weather events, ensuring the well-being of its citizens remns a priority.
